These two words from a personal trainer can get you back on your feet after being knocked down.

Storytime.

Seven months ago, I got plantar fasciitis, so I haven't been running.

Now my feet feel better, but I'm reluctant to run.

"What if I can't run as far as before?"

"What if I'm slower?"

"What if I get winded?"

Here's the truth.

I won't be able to run as far.

I'll be slower.

I'll be huffing and puffing.

Running won't be as easy as it was before.

But I can't make progress until I start running.

How do you start running?

Here's my trainer:

"Lower your expectations. Run for 10-minutes without focusing on the distance or pace. In other words, do less.”

"Do less.”

Doing less is a great way to build momentum.

Momentum creates motivation.

And motivation leads to progress.

10 minutes of running becomes 15.

15 minutes becomes 30 minutes.

30 minutes becomes an hour.

You get the idea.

Why am I talking about this?

In sales, we often told to do more.

Rip 100 dials.

Write 40 emails.

However, sometimes, doing less is exactly what you need to create momentum.

Haven’t been cold calling in awhile?

Start with 10 dials.

The takaway?

When you get sidelined give yourself a break.

Do less.
